Watercolor Class

This class meets
once a week on either tuesday afternoon from 1:00-3:00 p.m. or evenings from 6:00-8:00 p.m.


"Basics and Beyond in Watercolor"

6-Sessions
May 7-June 11 (May 7,14,21,28 & June 4 and 11) 

This class is for all skill levels. Participants will be exposed to differing techniques and approaches to constructing a composition through demonstrations, discussion and reproductions of a variety of artists' works. Betty incourages participants to let go of preconceived notions and experience the medium in the spirit of exploration. Returning painters will have a chance to practice their increasing skills when applied to new visual problems.

*A supply list for all classes is available upon request.

Open Studio

The studio will be open saturday afternoons from 1-4:00 p.m. for anyone to work in their medium of choice. This will be available whenever classes are in session.

 "Open Studio for creative endeavors"

Interested parties may use the three hour studio times for for just $15 an afternoon. No class instruction is offered, but Betty is available to answer questions and help with ongoing projects. This is a good opportunity for those who want more personal painting time or for those working on class projects. Groups of "painting fellows" are welcome.

 


Expressive Drawing

New drawing experiences offered in this second session, but no previous experience needed!


 This class meets on saturdays from from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

"Expressive Drawing"

 6- Sessions                                                                         May 11-June 15 (May 11,18,25 & June 1,8,15)

 Drawing is approached as a means for investigating the elements of art and principles of design along with the creation of visual metaphors. Directed exercises lead to individualized visual records of the process and interpretations of meaning. Traditional drawing materials and waterbased paints are used and most materials are provided. No drawing experience is needed only the desire to explore your creative self. Drawings can stand alone or be used as explorations for expressive paintings.

Returning painters will have a chance to practice their increasing skills when applied to new visual problems.

This class meets once a week on saturday mornings from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

"Personal Paintings in Watercolor/Watermedia"

 Dates to be announced

This class is an opportunity for those with some painting experience to work in a longer individual class session.  A variety of techniques will be reviewed and their implications for compositional and stylistic concerns investigated. Students may use watercolor or acrylic paint. Additional watermediums will be available as add ons for mixing mediums and individuals may experiment with process and materials as wanted. Participants may work from studio set-ups, instructors references or individual references or sketches.

Private Lessons and Open Studio

 Private or semi-private instruction

We offer private or semi-private instruction on an ongoing basis and will work to find times suitable for both instructor and student. Experience level and interests will determine individualized lessons- 

$20 an hour for semi-private and $25 for individual

Things You Need To Know
  • Payment is due on or before the first day of class.  Personal checks or cash are accepted only
  • Any missed classes must be made up before the end of a session
  • Tuition includes backing boards and clips for watercolor paper, paper towels for water control and clean-up and water containers. Watercolor paper is available (variety of types and brands) at a nominal fee. Some trays are available to use as paint pallets. Students who register will get a list of brushes and paints that are recommended to purchase. Students who already have supplies may bring them to the first session of a class and add to them later if necessary.
  • The studio is well equiped and comfortable and anyone considering a class may visit by appointment by calling 518-260-6764.
  • Studio hours are Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 1-4pm (subject to change). Please call ahead to make sure something has not come up!
